Sakhalin and Hokkaido: Students’ Friendship Bridge.

Students from Russia and Japan took part in an online round table.

Students of the Institute of Psychology and Pedagogy and the Institute of Philology, History and Oriental Studies of Sakhalin State University (SSU) took part in a round table with students of Wakkanai Hokusei Gakuen University (Japan) by online.

The round table program exists for 3 years. Usually the meeting takes place in person, but this year and last year, due to the pandemic, the meetings are held online.

From Japan there were the following participants: 5 students, employees of the main bureau of the Hokkaido Governorate in the Soya district, as well as employees of the representative office of the Hokkaido Governorate in Sakhalin.

From the Russian side there were: 6 students of Sakhalin State University, vice-rector, Mr. Nikolay Khurchak, associate professor of the SSU’s Department of Oriental Philology, Ms. Olga Shashkina, and leading expert of International relations Department, Mr. Sergey Aseev.

During the conversation, the students spoke about their educational institutions and discussed the spread of new coronavirus infection in the city of Wakkanai and Sakhalin Island. The students also shared their plans for the post-coronavirus period.

These events are held in order to develop international cooperation between Sakhalin State University and Wakkanai Hokusei Gakuen University.

It is worth noting that this international partnership have been linking the two universities for more than 30 years.
