In this report I found out historical backgrounds of tourism development in the Republic of Korea, basic reasons for rising of tourism and economy of Korea. In my research the history of international tourism development was divided into four stages: 1975–1979, 1980–1994, 1995–2019 and 2019 – present. Historical events were determined and found out their influence on tourism sphere in Korea. Main trends of outbound and inbound tourism development were detected in stages: growth of tourist arrivals and departures, effective policy in tourism sphere, promotion on international market and tourism infrastructure development. The post COVID-19 state of tourism industry of the Republic of Korea was analyzed.
