Greetings were given in four languagesduring the «Initiation into Orientalists» at the Institute of Philology, History and Oriental Studies of Sakhalin State University – an event that became the first serious challenge for students of the language department. 92 first-year students from the Institute of Philology, History and Oriental Studies studying Oriental languagesand 2 foreign students from the course of «Russian as a Foreign Language» spoke in Oriental and Russian languagesfor the first time in front of a large audience. The first-year students majoring in Linguistics (Chinese language), Oriental Studies and African Studies (Korean language), Pedagogical Education (Korean and Japanese languages) had thoroughly prepared their speeches and passed this difficult and exciting test with honor.
The teachers of the Departments of Oriental Philology and Russian Language and Literature noted that this first performance of the students was an excellent start in the study of Oriental Languages, and for foreign students – an important step in understanding Russian culture.
Guests of the event – the group «Ethnos» from the Children’s Art School – immersed all participants in Russian traditional culture with their concert program «Carols».
That is certainly the way to develop intercultural communication and multicultural personality – across Oriental and Russian cultures.
